One night we ended up in Surry Hills at In The Mood For Thai. I wasn’t particularly in the mood for Thai, but turning up to restaurants without a reservation on a Saturday night is pretty tricky in Surry Hills. So we went in and I immediately liked the open front and the decor. There were woven basket chairs hanging from the ceiling and a moody red & black colour scheme, which a lot of Thai eateries are going for these days, I’ve noticed.

The food took a while to come out, and seeing as though I was already hungry and cranky, this didn’t help matters. Fortunately, the food did make up for it.

The green curry was served in a shallow square plate, which I thought was interesting and maybe a little bit westernised. But, I should learn not to make assumptions because the green curry was great! Just the right amount of chilli, a smooth texture and a generous serve of vegetables throughout.

Freshly Grilled Tender Octopus $16.00

The grilled octopus was served on a salad of mint, lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, red onion with a chilli lime dressing. It was lovely and fresh. The octopus was nicely grilled with that smoky char-grilled flavour.

They were so generous with the portion of grilled chicken. This was probably our favourite dish. The chicken was grilled til perfectly tender and juicy. The two accompanying sauces were also delicious, sweet chilli sauce and a special fish sauce.

Overall:
I was pleasantly surprised by this Thai eatery. Even though I kept comparing the prices to my local Thai restaurant, I was still happy as the food was good. There’s so many Thai eateries in Surry Hills to choose from, but I think this one is pretty decent and wouldn’t hurt the wallet so much!
