I had been wanting to visit Brasserie Bread for so long. And all of a sudden, a change of plans meant brunch for Miss LV, Miss Toronto and I at their hugely popular cafe. When I walked in, I could immediately see and feel that they were serious about their bread. Beautiful sourdough loaves and rolls of all varieties as well as rows of jams dotted the walls. I was drawn to the tarts and pastries in the display cabinet, and we decided that we had to pick up something on the way out!

Condiments for bread sampling
We arrived at about 11.30am on Sunday morning, and it was pretty packed. Whilst perusing the menu, we got to talking to the lady next to us who could not stop gushing about how much she loved the cafe. She recommended we try everything! Oh, if only there was enough stomach space!

Florentine Panini $10.00
The florentine panini consisted of a fried egg, bacon, spinach and hollandaise sauce. After my first bite, I thought ‘wow this bread is amazing’. It was crispy and moist at the same time. The simple combination of egg, bacon and spinach was jazzed up with a lovely rich and creamy hollandaise sauce.

Poached Eggs with Smoked Trout and Parsley & Feta Salad on Toast $10.00
The best part about ordering poached eggs is piercing the egg and watching the egg yolk ooze out! Or is that just me? The eggs here were poached perfectly and I enjoyed the combination of the salty smoked trout and parsley & feta salad. Again, the star of this dish was definitely the crispy and moist bread.

Sourdough Pancakes with Stewed Berries and Honeycomb Cream $12.00
We knew that we had to order the pancakes, so we ordered strategically so that we could fit this in
There were two different types of pancakes on the menu, one with stewed berries and one with banana and maple syrup. We ordered the stewed berries one because the honeycomb cream sounded too divine to pass up. And oh, it was heaven. The sourdough pancakes were lovely and fluffy without being sickeningly sweet. This was delicious and a must-try.

Chocolate and Orange Pastry (small) $1.50
After finishing our brunch, we decided to check out the cakes, bread and pastries. I noticed these small chocolate swirl things in the baskets at the back of the counter and upon asking the super friendly staff, I found out they were chocolate and orange pastries. I decided to get a small one and I had it right then and there whilst the other girls were ordering their cakes and bread. I would’ve liked more chocolate filling, and the pastry wasn’t flakey and crispy as I expected, but it wasn’t bad for $1.50!

Apricot Tart with Frangipane $4.50
I thought that the chocolate & orange swirl pastry would be enough for me, but the longer we lingered in there, the more I wanted to buy some tarts! So, I gave in and ended up buying three things to take home! The apricot tart with frangipane was delicious, light in texture and smooth. The apricots made me feel as though this was even kind of healhy! Kind of.

Chocolate Heaven $5.00
The chocolate & caramel tart was, as the name suggests - chocolate heaven! It was so decadent, rich and creamy. The buttery pastry was filled with a smooth chocolate and caramel mixture and it was just so gorgeous. I couldn’t stop after taking a few bites, even though I was so full!

Chocolate Teacakes $3.50
The winter collection of chocolate teacakes consisted of smooth milk chocolate, dark chocolate fudge, white chocolate & macadamia and mocha. I decided to try the dark chocolate fudge teacake. I was surprised to find a layer of dark chocolate in the centre of the teacake! It was moist and coconut-y and perfect as an afternoon snack with my cup of tea.

Sandwiches
We were all impressed with the friendly staff there. My friend even scored a free loaf of schiacciata (Skiah-CHA-tah) after she bought half the store! haha. I was also lucky to briefly meet the owner of Brasserie Bread, who was sitting at the table next to us enjoying his soup!

Overall:
I wish I could come here for breakfast everyday! I was impressed with everything, from the food to the service, and the prices were so reasonable as well. You can tell that they really love what they’re doing here as it really shows in the quality of the food. I’ll definitely be back for more!

I really want to visit this place too! It’s just soooo far, but I’m getting convinced it’s well worth the trip!
Yumm, great photos Betty! They are making me so hungry especially since I haven’t had brekkie yet! The bread and the pancakes look amazing. I’ve loved all the Brasserie stuff I’ve tried but I have yet to make it to the store
wish there was another branch closer!
Those sourdough pancakes look heavenly. Another place to add to my wish list!
I found Brasserie bread at All Press in Zetland & have been obsessed with their bread every since. It’s perfect every time.
I might need to go out to the cafe & try those sourdough pancakes, they look delicious.
Their sourdough pancakes always look divine. Hmm this post is not a good thing to read over a mundane breakfast of plain porridge! lol
The florentine panini looks really nice – must try that next time I go. Too bad it’s so far away otherwise I would go every weekend for brekky! Hehe I like poking the yolk of poached eggs too
You have to try their garlic bread next time, it’s absolutely amazing!
oh my- I wish I hadn’t read this post right before dinner time! I have never eaten sourdough pancakes- although sound interesting and look great, as does the panini, and the chocolate caramel tart. yum.
I love the little pots of jam. They look so good.
Heheh, we got free schiacciata when we were there too! And I love piercing my yolks to reveal the golden oozy centres – it is sad where there is no yolk lava =(
Oh god I’d end up spending a fortune here. Do they give free sacks if you buy too many things?
That poached egg with trout parsley and feta salad looks TDF. I’d want to go everyday for breakfast as well.
I haven’t been to brasserie bread in a while! I always go there for pancakes or if im there for lunch, I order their lamb and rosemary with a fried egg and of course a loaf of their sourdough bread. ^_^
Hey there Betty! Thanks for dropping by my blog. I love yours! (Especially that header title – I looove that movie
)
This looks great! It sounds almost perfect, with good food, nice atmosphere, AND friendly staff! I especially want to try those sourdough pancakes. Mmm, pancakes!
(Oh, and honeycomb cream. Yum?)

I still haven’t made it here!
It all looks delicious & I need to hightail it here to check it out for myself! Those sourdough pancakes look great!
Oh mannn its soo farr but soo goooddd! Must go back to satisfy my garlic loaf craving soon
I visited this place after it got the great writeup in the SMH last year, and my breakfast was so utterly disappointing… It was barely edible
My pancakes were awful.. and Mr Ladybird’s eggs were so bad!
Perhaps it was a case of not being able to cope with the crowds after the writeup… At any rate, it sounds like things have improved. I might have to go back and try it… Glad you had such a good time there
I so love a good bakery – wish this was in my neck of the woods. Thankfully a new bakery (Red Door) opened it’s doors a few months ago nearer to me. I’ll be blogging on it soon too – it fulfils so many of the similar high points to this one
Now I’m so hungry I’m going to seriously overeat at dinner!
