A couple of weeks ago, D* took me to a secluded little Italian restaurant, hidden behind the hustle and bustle of Kings Cross. The menu consisted of your traditional pizza, pasta, salad and dessert combinations. Sometimes all you need at the end of a working week is a big bowl of carbs, no?!
Garlic Bread $4.00
The restaurant/cafe is small and narrow with just over a few tables inside and a couple of tables outside. I liked the laid back and friendly service. The garlic bread was warm and fluffy and the perfect way to start our meal.
Cacciatore $10.00
There is a choice of spaghetti, penne, fettuccine, gnocchi or gluten free pasta. I chose the gluten free penne pasta with my cacciatore. The cacciatore is a tomato based sauce with spicy Italian sausage, onion, garlic and herbs. I like my tomato based sauces more than the creamy pastas, so this suited me just fine. The spicy italian sausages gave the dish a nice chilli kick.
Carbonara $12.00
The carbonara was wonderfully creamy with bits of bacon, mushrooms, onion & garlic, finished with egg & parmesan. They were very generous with the bacon and mushrooms, both of which were enjoyed thoroughly.
Chocolate Fondant $12.50
Ok, let’s not lie. The pastas were just one step towards getting us to our chocolate fondant dessert. D* had spoken about how awesome this was, so I was really looking forward to it. It was a small pot of chocolate fondant served with strawberries and vanilla ice cream.
The best part was piercing through the top cakey layer to reveal the gooey chocolate! So good.
Biscotti served with the bill! I thought that was a nice touch
Overall:
Dolcetta is a lovely little casual Italian cafe/restaurant. If I lived or worked around there, I could see myself going quite often as it seems reliable and offers some decent Italian fare at very reasonable prices.

Chocolate fondant and carbonara, I’d love those right now!
I would go there just for the chokky fondant & I agree with about ‘end of week’ carb up
I love how the carbonara is full of bacon and mushrooms, just the way I like it! Awesome stuff, I’m gonna pay them a visit the next time I’m around that area.
the carbonara omg sauceee…
YUM…
Yum! This is a great find.. the chocolate fondant looks so rich!
There’s nothing that speaks comfort quite like carbs, especially when it’s freezing outside. And I do like nutty biscotti – even better when it’s on the house!
Both pasta dishes look pretty good for what you pay for them. I’d be happy to go with either.
Fondant seems like a no brainer
Chocolate fondant is always a winner, but I prefer mine turned out.. Somehow the demolition of the crust to get to the chocolatey innards is so much more satisfying that way
Ok. that chocolate fondant looks gooeylicious! Too bad I live in another state.
A pile of delicious carbs and a chocolate fondant does indeed sound like the perfect end to a week. Have to love a hidden restaurant too!
Ooohhh I love that chocolate melted goodness in the centre! And yes, glad to see the generous amount of bacon in the carbonara!
I love your blog- the photography is amazing
The pasta looks like something I could have right now! So creamy… yum!
OH BETTY! what are you doing to me?
