October is a fabulous month for all the foodies out there, with so many events happening as part of the Crave Sydney International Food Festival (SIFF). I’m always overwhelmed by all the events and never manage to plan ahead, but last weekend a last minute meet-up with Mrs. J led us to Hyde Park Barracks Cafe for their ‘Let’s do brunch’ menu.
Homemade Granola with Vanilla Yoghurt and Poached Fruit
For $25, we were given a three course brunch meal! The first course was homemade granola with vanilla yoghurt, and poached peach & strawberries. We both enjoyed the crunchy granola and the fresh fruit. The only problem was we were already beginning to feel full after this!
Eggs Three Ways
The second course was, eggs three ways - a spinach & mushroom omelette with ciabatta; an egg, chorizo and roast tomato tart; and ham & eggs benedict on an english muffin with hollaindaise sauce.
Eggs Benedict
Luckily I’m a huge fan of eggs, so I enjoyed everything on the plate, although it was a bit too much and I only managed to finish about half of it! The ham & eggs benedict was my favourite as the egg was poached just perfectly. This is definitely a meal for the egg-lovers out there!
Raspberry Waffles
The final course was raspberry waffle with white chocolate sauce, vanilla bean gelato and berries. Although we were completely stuffed, when these arrived at our table we gladly dug in! Wonderfully warm and crispy waffles with berries and delicious vanilla bean gelato. A perfect ending to brunch.
Overall:
If you’re looking for a brunch option in the city, this is definitely an option. The only downside was the very slow service; they seemed understaff as they weren’t very attentive. But, I thought that the value was pretty good considering that we got so much food and we left very satisfied and a little bit too full! It’s also in the perfect location, just across from Hyde Park, so you can walk it off or go for a spot of shopping afterwards
