Drinks: Lychee Blend, Lime Refresh $4.00 each

Before our chocolate feast, Little J and I had a cheep and cheerful meal at Let’s Eat Thai restaurant in Marrickville. I pass this restaurant every single day, but I never really gave it a second thought until I read that it was run by ex-Spice I Am veterans. After some positive reviews, I knew that I had to add it to my list of places to try. We arrive early, secure a table and order some drinks to start off. The lychee blend was sweet and the lime refresh was, well, refreshing! Both were perfect throughout the meal in downing the chilli!

Som Tum $7.90

I always think that som tum is a really great way to judge whether a Thai restaurant is either good or great. Som tum is a papaya salad, with dried shrimp, tomatoes, snake beans, garlic, chilli, fish sauce, lime juice and peanuts. I enjoyed the crunch of the green papaya, dried shrimp and snake beans, although it did get quite spicy for me! I’d say it was better than good, with a lot of potential to become great.

Neu Pad Cha $15.90

The Neu Pad Cha is stewed beef which is so very tender, fried in a homemade chilli paste with Thai eggplant. The stewed beef was a real hit, being so tender and fell apart with just the slightest touch. It was quite spicy and the mild Thai eggplant balanced things out nicely.

Special: Massaman Duck $19.90

The final dish we ordered was from the specials board, it was the massaman duck curry. This consisted of smoked duck, potato and cashew nuts. I am a huge fan of massaman curry as it is quite sweet, and you can never go wrong with potato and cashew nuts, but I think I prefer a beef massaman as the duck didn’t quite seem to infuse as much of the flavour as I would have liked.

Overall:

Let’s Eat Thai offers some good, honest food without any fanfare. It’s relatively easy on the wallet and and perfect if you’re looking for a casual dinner out. I’d definitely like to try more of their menu, so I’ll definitely be back.
